A Poem by D. Neil Cowan 1906 to 1993
When you had a baby boy
It’s Fun to watch him grow
To see him take his first steps
And hear him coe and crow.

You watch him squeeze his weely toy
And pull his little truck
And wonder why God gave you
Such a wonderful piece of luck.

You watch him grow to manhood
And worry all the years
Weather you’ve done the right thing
Cause there’ll always be some tears.

And then he’s gone to make his mark
Out among the crowd
You still can’t help but worry
Yet, but still you’re awful proud.

He’s still your boy however
What ere his choice may be
A pedagog, farmer, or soldier
Or sailor gone to sea.

And then you stop to rest awhile
With all the memories
Of how you planned and talked
With him on what he’d like to be.

And you thank the God
Who  gave to you this boy
Of course there’s been some heart-ache
But also lots of joy.

then’s when you pray to God above
To give all the joy
You had when you enjoyed him
Since he was your baby boy.
